About this role:
Nova Sky Stories is looking for a talented Character Designer to help shape unforgettable stories told in the sky. In this role, you'll create original characters that begin as expressive 2D concepts and evolve into large-scale 3D drone performances viewed by audiences around the world.
Working closely with Creative Directors, artists, animators, and technical teams, you'll transform creative ideas into memorable characters that communicate emotion, personality, and story within the unique possibilities of aerial entertainment. This role is ideal for someone who is excited by the opportunity to help define a new creative medium where illustration, animation, technology, and live experiences come together.
As a Character Designer, you’ll be responsible for:
- Design original characters from early concept exploration through final production-ready artwork for large-scale drone performances.
- Translate story ideas, creative briefs, and artistic direction into compelling characters that support narrative, emotion, and audience engagement.
- Develop character turnarounds, expression sheets, pose explorations, silhouettes, and supporting design assets that communicate personality and performance.
- Partner closely with Creative Directors and creative leadership to refine character concepts through collaboration, feedback, and creative iteration.
- Create visual guides and design documentation that enable artists, animators, and technical teams to successfully develop characters into three-dimensional aerial experiences.
- Collaborate across creative and technical disciplines to ensure character designs remain visually compelling while supporting production and technological requirements.
- Explore creative solutions that balance artistic vision with the opportunities and constraints of live drone entertainment.
- Maintain organized production files, documentation, and design assets while meeting project schedules and quality expectations.
- Participate in creative reviews, design discussions, brainstorming sessions, and production meetings to help shape the overall artistic direction of each project.
- Support additional concept development, world-building, and visual design initiatives as needed.
You’ll need to have:
- Professional experience designing characters for animation, games, feature films, themed entertainment, or comparable visual storytelling environments.
- Exceptional drawing, illustration, and concept design skills with a strong understanding of anatomy, gesture, shape language, silhouette, proportion, and character appeal.
- Ability to translate abstract ideas and creative direction into memorable characters that communicate personality, emotion, and story.
- Experience creating character turnarounds, expression sheets, pose explorations, technical callouts, and production-ready design packages.
- Strong understanding of visual storytelling, design fundamentals, composition, color, and form.
- Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and other industry-standard digital illustration tools.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills with the ability to incorporate feedback and iterate efficiently within a multidisciplinary creative team.
- Ability to manage multiple creative priorities while maintaining exceptional artistic quality and meeting production deadlines.
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring how character design can evolve within an emerging storytelling medium that combines art, animation, technology, and live entertainment.
It’s a plus if you have:
- Professional experience as a Character Designer within animation, AAA games, feature films, themed entertainment, or other visual entertainment industries.
- Portfolio demonstrating exceptional character development, including concept sketches, expression sheets, turnarounds, line work, and production-ready designs.
- Experience with animation principles, storyboarding, life drawing, sculpture, color styling, or visual development.
- Familiarity with creating artwork that transitions from two-dimensional concepts into three-dimensional assets.
- Passion for innovation and interest in helping shape the future of immersive live entertainment through creative technology.
Salary Range: $115,000–$140,000 USD

Lead Product Designer
$120k – $200k • 0.0% – 0.4%
We’re building Reflow, a workforce and workflow intelligence platform that helps teams understand and improve how work gets done. Design is core to the product: we’re turning complex, abstract work data into experiences that feel clear, powerful, and human.
We’re looking for a Lead Product Designer who can own design end-to-end from user insight to shipped interface in a true early-stage environment. This is a hands-on role for someone who has built from scratch and cares deeply about craft, clarity, and outcomes.
What you’ll do
Own product design, end to end:
- Own the design vision and execution across the product.
- Design complex, data heavy interfaces that translate complex workflows and data into intuitive, usable experiences.
- Define interaction patterns, UX principles, and visual direction.
Be deeply hands-on:
- Design core product flows, dashboards, and interactions.
- Produce high-quality UX, UI, and interaction design — not just concepts.
- Iterate quickly alongside engineering as things get built and shipped.
Stay close to users
- Conduct lightweight user research: interviews, usability testing, and observation.
- Validate ideas early with customers and partners.
- Turn real-world feedback into design improvements.
Build the design foundation:
- Establish design systems, components, and patterns that scale with the product.
- Document decisions and principles to create consistency without bureaucracy.
- Raise the bar for product quality across the company.
Partner tightly with product and engineering:
- Shape product direction through design thinking, not just execution.
- Help prioritize what matters most for usability and adoption.
- Be pragmatic about tradeoffs while protecting the user experience.
Who you are
- 5+ years of product design experience, including time at a very early-stage startup.
- Former founding designer, first designer, or early design hire strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to design complex, data-rich, or workflow-heavy products.
- Strong visual, UX, and interaction design skills — with a portfolio to prove it.
- Comfortable shipping imperfect things, learning, and iterating fast.
- Clear communicator who can explain design decisions and tradeoffs.
Bonus points
- Experience with B2B SaaS, analytics, dashboards, or enterprise tools.
- Familiarity with frontend constraints and working closely with engineers.
- Experience shaping brand or product identity early.
Why join
- Founding-level ownership over product design.
- Direct influence on how the product looks, feels, and works.
- Tight collaboration with founders and early customers.
- Opportunity to build and lead the design function as the company scales.
- Flexible setup (contract or full-time), high trust, high expectations.
This role is for a designer who wants to define the product experience from day one — not inherit it later.

- Prototyping & Iteration: Create interactive mock-ups and prototypes to effectively communicate design concepts, gather stakeholder feedback, and rapidly iterate on solutions before engineering hand-off.
- Data Visualization: Design and build complex, interactive data visualizations that allow clients to easily interpret their bioanalytical results.
- Design System Ownership: Take ownership and evolve our comprehensive design system and component library to ensure visual consistency and accelerate development.
- Complex UI Architecting: Act as a strategic partner to the engineering team, providing hands-on design guidance and innovative solutions to tackle complex, non-standard user interface challenges.
- Design Quality Assurance: Conduct regular design QA and comprehensive UI reviews of developer implementations to ensure the final product maintains a high degree of visual polish and usability.
- Brand Agency Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact and strategic partner for our external brand agency, ensuring seamless alignment between external brand identity and internal product experiences.
- Marketing Support: Partner with the Marketing team to provide high-level design support for ad-hoc campaigns, collateral, and digital assets.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 5–7+ years of experience in product design, UI/UX, and frontend development. (Principal level requires 7+ years with a track record of architectural design influence and leading major product launches).
- Design Expertise: Mastery of modern design tools (Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and a strong portfolio demonstrating experience with B2B SaaS, customer portals, or data-rich enterprise applications.
- AI Fluency: Actively uses AI tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.) to accelerate design and development workflows. Comfortable prompting, iterating, and shipping faster without sacrificing quality.
- Technical Proficiency: Solid understanding of modern web capabilities (HTML, CSS, React) to ensure smooth engineering hand-offs and the technical feasibility of your designs.
- Data-Driven Design: Proven experience designing interfaces that handle complex data sets, analytics, and reporting for external users.
- Communication: Excellent ability to articulate design decisions, present to stakeholders, and collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers and product managers.
